A sense of self is about two dimensions:
- Knowing yourself (preferences, values, assumptions) and;
- Knowing the impact you have on others (your ability to recognise, use, understand and manage emotions in yourself and others).
It is about fundamentally accepting that if you want to make a difference in the world, large or small, then you will need to get results through and with other people. If you understand the impact you have on others (both positive and negative), that’s a starting point. But it is not enough to ensure success. Really exceptional results occur when you not only understand yourself now, but you have a willingness to listen to feedback and to change your behaviour as a result of what you learn, depending on who you are with, what you are endeavouring to do and with what resources.
Understanding and evolving self is an excerpt from One World Atlast, p. 168
